What to do about baby with fever from teething?
My 7 month old little girl started running a low grade fever friday afternoon, 99.4 we gave her tylenol and it went up to 100.9 within the next hour. It went down after that and remained low grade until(under 100) this morning. Today it has been elevated. We have been alternating tylenol and motrin every 4-6 hours. the tylenol does not seem to be helping at all. it has gotten up to 102 (rectal). She is not interested in her toys or baby food, however she will drink water and juice, and sip on her formula a little bit. We have given her several baths today to try to help her rest. we have also been applying oragel to sooth her pain. She just started daycare 2 weeks ago and this is the 1st fever she has ever had, she is stuffy with watery eyes and has clear to milky looking snot with small amount of blood. she has 2 1/2 year old brother with no signs or symptoms of being the least little bit sick,so i really don’t think it is anything major.. i’m debating on taking her to the ER, what do u think (its an hour away)? could really use some serious answers, i have class first thing in the morning and have a baby sitter lined up if fever is still high

I personally wouldn’t go to the ER. However, I wouldn’t assume that the fever is from teething. It sounds like she has some mild respiratory symptoms that may have possibly caused an ear infection. Or it could just simply be a mild virus. Either way, it doesn’t sound like it is anything that warrants an ER visit.
I would continue giving her the Tylenol / Morin tonight and tomorrow morning, offer extra fluids (formula is probably best because that is where the calories are), and keep her with the baby-sitter. If she is running a fever tonight, she can’t go to daycare tomorrow. And after class, I would take her into the pediatrician. If you can’t get her in there, go to an urgent care facility. This way, you can rule out any kind of bacteria infection that may require antibiotics.
That may be a virus and not just teething, the snot kind of has me suspicious. Also, the recent start of daycare – my son caught a lot of things when he first started day care. If you go to the ER, you’ll be there all night and will have to miss class. I would recommend a trip to the regular pediatrician later in the day tomorrow.
…if it were me i’d be taking her to the ER but i live in a little town and theres never anybody up there and its only a 10 minute drive…
if not that to the doctor in the morning.
I wouldn’t rush to the ER, but I would call and see if you can be transfered to the pediatric unit and speak to teh nurse on duty. SHe will be able to help you and tell you if she needs to go in or not.
Call your child’s doctors office. They will reach the doctor on call and he/she can give you advice. I’d do this before driving to the ER.
I called my daughter’s doctor several months ago when she was 11 months old and they told me not to worry unless the fever got to 102 and wasn’t going down an hour after giving tylenol.
Are you sure she is getting the right dosage too?
The nurse at my daughter’s dr.s office actually told me I didn’t have to treat it if I didn’t want to if it was under 102…but I wanted to get it down. My daughter wasn’t even acting as though anything was wrong though. The nurse even called it "theraputic for the body"….whatever that means. But they weren’t really worried.
But call the doctor on call and see what they suggest. My daughter is/was a little older than yours.
Put her in a tub that is more cold than warm. Give her a Popsicle or cold juice while she’s in there. Good Luck I hope she feels better
